I am amazed at how much material is available to read in this bundle. I still haven't read it all, but I am sampling from the different parts: one book from the Essentials, one from the Character Guides Bundle and so on. The Mahabharata Reader books are also wonderful. Every once in a while, you come across an author who is less popular than he deserves to be. While other, louder writers get all the acclaim, people like these write beautiful books that are little-known. This bundle of Mahabharata character guides is a collection that you will enjoy just for the pure intellectual and empathic exercise of putting yourself in the shoes of Draupadi, Arjuna et al. I'm definitely buying more of what Sharath has to offer. Also feels great to be buying direct from him without feeding a middleman. May the arts flourish in this country!
I am what you could call a beginner to the Mahabharata. I've not even read the Amar Chitra Katha version of it. So I emailed Sharath and asked if this bundle would be suitable for me. He said, 'Try it, if it doesn't work for you, I will refund your money.' So I took the plunge, and I'm happy to report that I was able to get into the books very easily. Now I find myself wanting to explore the Mahabharata more deeply. I had no idea there was so much in there that I didn't know about!
What I found most interesting in the bundle was how the relationship between the characters are also explored: Bhima-Duryodhana, Karna-Arjuna, Krishna-Draupadi� my favourite among this was the usually ignored Kunti-Gandhari dynamic. Read the two guides together and you will know what I mean. The writing style is clear, yet full of immersion. It feels like the author has brought all of his fiction-writing skills into this work. Well worth a try!
