Product Information
“My mother and father never read to me.”
May your child never say that of you after they grow up, because who would disagree that one of the great joys of existence has been denied to the boy or girl who grew up without the joy of reading.
It is for the parent that wants to grow close to their child through reading good, uplifting stories; for the parent that is perplexed as to just what to read, that the Mahabharata Essentials is perfect.
Because let’s face it, there is so much garbage in the world these days. No matter which way we turn, we see advertising, propaganda and politics infiltrate the media that our children consume.
You want to read to your child. You want to build with them a bond of friendship and love. You want the books you read together to be memorable, to be instrumental in building your boy or girl into an upstanding citizen.
Because you don’t want just entertainment for your child. You want education. You want wisdom. You want to instill a deep cultural memory that will serve as a source of grit.
Grit. If there is one thing you want for your child, if there is one habit you want your child to imbibe, one quality you want him or her to possess, it is grit.
Grit that Draupadi shows to surmount all the misfortunes that the world heaps upon her.
Grit that Arjuna calls upon to practice day and night, to make himself the best archer in the world.
Grit that Karna summons every moment of his life, to help him in the search to find himself.
Introduce your child to the heroic ideals and noble thoughts of people who’ve made history.
If you do not, the reality shows, the crass films, the news channels – they will claim your legacy.
Who would you rather your child thinks of as a role model? Krishna from the Mahabharata, or the current A-list actor intent on feeding his craven audiences lies every day?
The grace and courage of Draupadi and Kunti – or the vanity and empty pride of a social media influencer?
The best that humanity has to offer – or the basest?
Fill your child’s mind with images and thoughts of great men and women that have come before us – and you will never have to worry for their future.
In the Mahabharata Essentials, you will encounter several stories that will furnish your child with role models worth emulating. Among the sages, the heroes, the queens, the princesses, the goddesses – you will meet the essence of humanity itself.
After receiving such a gift, how can a boy or girl not grow up to be generous, resolute and successful?
How can a child who receives such warmth from you not use it as fuel for growth and good?
Perfect for all Mahabharata enthusiasts. Get it today!

Easily the best Mahabharata-related books I've read in my life. I'd discovered Sharath Komarraju through his Hastinapur series and loved it, so I thought I'd try his Mahabharata nonfiction as well. 51 Lesser Known Tales is the perfect entry point for beginners and nerds alike. I love the breadth and depth with which Sharath handles the subject matter. It is clear how passionate he is about our myths and history. Looking forward to the Ramayana books now!
The collection spans six carefully crafted books with over 600 pages that transformed my understanding in just 10+ reading hours. The Mahabharata Cheat Book is especially good, offering especially insightful answers in a crisp format. The printable PDF option has been unexpectedly valuable - I've printed sections of my favorite books to annotate while keeping the digital versions for easy reference. Eye-opening!
While all volumes offer valuable insights, "Who's Who in the Mahabharata: A Complete Cast of Characters" stands as an underrated reference work that provides a quick introduction with essential context to most main characters. I've attempted several other Mahabharata adaptations but this is the best one! Very happy with how perfectly suited these books are for sharing with children.
Sharath's writing style is remarkably engaging—conversational yet profound—making you feel like you're discovering these ancient tales alongside a knowledgeable friend. I've tried numerous Mahabharata adaptations before and found them either painfully complex or frustratingly simplistic. Very happy with this purchase - it's become an invaluable resource.
Spanning 600+ pages across six meticulously crafted books, I've spent over 10 hours reading these. Wonderful value for money, in these days when even a bad movie costs more than this bundle. I've attempted other Mahabharata adaptations before but found them frustratingly complex. These books, on the other hand, are organized into short chapters that are easily accessible. Recommended both for personal reading and for reading to children and young adults. Go for it.
Among all six books spanning 600+ engrossing pages, "17 Fascinating Women from the Mahabharata" stands out as a particularly insightful book. Sharath's insights on Draupadi, Kunti, and Gandhari were very illuminating. The instant download feature meant I could immediately start reading. I read on my tablet, my phone, my computer, anywhere I want. I love the flexibility!
I've discovered an intriguing world that previously seemed impenetrable. 'The Mahabharata at a Glance: All 100 Parvas Summarized' is particularly good; this reference tells you exactly what each Parva contains. I didn't even know that there were 100 Parvas in the Mahabharata before, let alone their names! The instant download feature meant I could dive into these treasures immediately, while the multi-device compatibility ensures I'm never without these books. Very happy with the purchase.
After discovering Sharath through his "51 Lesser Known Tales" book on Amazon, I immediately purchased the Mahabharata Essentials Bundle to complete my collection. "The Mahabharata War: A Summary" is absolutely worth the price of the bundle in its own right—the thorough analysis of battle strategies and moral dilemmas is second to none. I particularly appreciate how Sharath presents multiple angles on complex situations, allowing readers to form their own conclusions. The instant download feature meant I could begin reading immediately, and the multi-device compatibility offers great flexibility. Also - the printable PDF! I find myself printing out a few pages here and there just to read on paper. Literally covers all bases for a reader.
"The Mahabharata Cheat Book" is my favourite of the bundle. The Character Cheat Sheets are particularly enlightening; this is a unique and creative way to provide information about various characters without it getting too wordy. The instant download feature meant I could begin my journey immediately, and the ability to read these books across all my devices ensures I'm never without access. Exceeded all my expectations!
"The Mahabharata War: A Summary" stands out as my absolute favorite—Sharath's precise analysis of battle strategies and ethical dilemmas made the central conflict crystal clear. Sharath Komarraju's conversational style feels like exploring these ancient tales alongside a knowledgeable friend. Whether you're introducing these timeless stories to children or deepening your own cultural understanding, this collection will serve your needs perfectly.
Sharath creates a pathway to wisdom that has existed for millennia but never before been presented with such clarity and depth. "The Mahabharata at a Glance" became my spiritual compass, offering profound insights in thoughtful chapters that I could reflect upon throughout my day. I've attempted other Mahabharata books in the past and abandoned them, finding them either too academic or too simplified, but these volumes strike that perfect balance. Highly recommended! Let these books become your guide, your teacher, and ultimately, your friend.
I've devoted over 10 reading hours exploring these volumes, and "Who's Who in the Mahabharata: A Complete Cast of Characters" has become my favorite. I keep referring to the list of characters to refresh my memory. I'd tried several other Mahabharata books before and found them frustratingly dense, but these volumes strike the perfect balance—maintaining depth while remaining completely accessible. Very happy!
Lovely way to get your feet wet in the Mahabharata universe, so to speak. Sometimes the world can feel a little daunting with the amount of literature out there. This little set (I say 'little', but it still is a hefty 600+ pages) will hold you by the hand and take you in. Guide you along the way. I had some gripes initially about the format and the small chapters, but once I saw the reason the author made the decision, I was all for it. Go for it - I can safely say you will not regret it!
A complete and comprehensive introduction to the Mahabharata. For best results, read these in this order: 51 Lesser Known Tales, 17 Fascinating Women, Who is Who, Mahabharata War Summary, 100 Parvas, and then Mahabharata Cheat Book at the end. Gives you a full picture of the Mahabharata, and you feel like a proper scholar after reading these.
The highest praise I can give these books is that I felt at peace reading them. I don't know if the credit goes to the Mahabharata itself or to Sharath's brilliant writing skills (probably a bit of both?) but I felt like I was being led into a different world, a different place, and being shown a piece of my history and culture. I will definitely pick up the Character Guides Bundle as well. If you're wondering whether you will like it or not - stop. I am pretty sure that you will :)
Finally! Books on the Mahabharata that don't bore me or put me to sleep. Too many authors are interested in packing their books with every little bit of their research. I mean, I know you did a lot of research, but that doesn't mean I have to see all of it. In these books, the focus is (rightly) on entertaining, educating, and discussing things with the reader. You get the feeling that Sharath is sitting alongside you for a conversation. Five stars!
Let me confess: my knowledge of the Mahabharata previously consisted entirely of confused nods whenever it came up in conversation, followed by desperate Wikipedia searches when nobody was looking. Enter The Mahabharata Essentials Bundle—six books and 600+ pages that promised to transform me from clueless nodder to person who occasionally says intelligent things about ancient epics. "Who's Who in the Mahabharata" quickly became my social salvation, allowing me to actually follow conversations without that glazed "I'm totally following this" expression that fools absolutely no one. Sharath writes like he's sitting next to you at a coffee shop, explaining complex philosophical concepts with casual clarity. The 30-day money-back guarantee sealed the deal for my commitment-phobic personality, but these books have earned permanent residence in my digital library—and occasional appearances in my actual conversations.
This year, I took up the challenge of reading the Mahabharata, but some of the books I tried were too verbose and dense for my liking. They almost killed my interest for the subject. These books are more gentle. They give you different perspectives on various aspects of the story. I would have enjoyed more original Sanskrit verses and their meanings, but the information is top notch. Sanskrit is definitely not 'essential', but it would have helped with the vibes.
The Mahabharata Essentials Bundle provides an ideal introduction to this monumental epic, especially for parents seeking to share these timeless stories with their children. The collection's six books span over 600 pages but are thoughtfully organized into manageable chapters perfect for bedtime reading sessions or family discussions. "The Mahabharata Cheat Book" proves particularly valuable for answering children's spontaneous questions about characters and relationships, while "51 Lesser Known Tales" offers wonderful opportunities to explore lesser-known narratives beyond the main conflict. The instant download feature allowed us to begin our reading journey immediately after purchase, and the multi-device compatibility means these stories are always available whether we're reading together at home or traveling. Great flexibility!
If you're interested in the Mahabharata, you could do much worse than these books. Some of the sources seemed questionable to me, and some of the stories are not even from the Mahabharata, but overall the style and tone is quite nice. I enjoyed about 4 of the 6 books, so I am giving the whole bundle a 3 out of 5.
The Mahabharata Essentials Bundle presents a comprehensive examination of this foundational epic through six methodically structured volumes totaling approximately 600 pages of substantive content. "The Mahabharata War: A Summary" offers particularly noteworthy analysis of tactical developments and ethical considerations within the central conflict, while maintaining accessibility for readers without specialized background knowledge. The collection functions effectively as an educational resource for introducing young learners to these cultural narratives, with appropriately scaled complexity and ethical discussions suitable for parental guidance.
At first I was worried that these were eBooks and I'm very much a paper-reader, but I also saw the practical difficulties in shipping and handling these biggish books. Also, I was thankful for the printable PDF option. It feels truly like the solution that works for all: eBook readers and paper readers. I personally got two of these books printed, two of my favourites, and let the rest remain in digital form. The Mahabharata Cheat Book is a surprisingly comprehensive resource. Thanks to the author for putting together this little bundle of books!
The Mahabharata was my grandfather's favorite story. This year, I wanted to renew my memories of him telling me stories from the great epic, and I picked up the Essentials Bundle. "Who's Who in the Mahabharata: A Complete Cast of Characters" has become my constant companion as I revisit my father's copy, finally understanding the connections between figures he had carefully underlined. The author's careful consideration of multiple perspectives on characters and events has helped me understand why this epic meant so much to my grandfather.
I first scoffed at the idea of yet another writer monetizing the Mahabharata, but took a chance on Sharath Komarraju after reading about him online. He seems to have a long list of books to his name. But all my skepticism vanished when I read the Mahabharata Essentials Omnibus. My absolute favourite volume in the bundle is the 'Who is Who in the Mahabharata' book. Gives you a full list of important characters, their biographies, and their relationship with each other. I feel like now I have a good fundamental knowledge of the Mahabharata. Bring on more!
Despite my embarrassingly limited knowledge of world literature (does watching the Thor movies count as understanding mythology?), I decided it was time to tackle something substantial, and The Mahabharata Essentials Bundle seemed less intimidating than trying to read the original thousand-chapter behemoth. With six books totaling just over 600 pages, even my attention-challenged brain could handle the 10+ reading hours spread over several weeks of bedtime reading. "The Mahabharata Cheat Book" quickly became my intellectual crutch, allowing me to fake understanding at dinner parties while actually learning something in the process.
IMO, more writers should offer their readers a money back guarantee. When all products and services these days offer it, why do we give writers and filmmakers a free pass? It should totally be a thing that you should be able to demand your money back if you didn't like a book. That little rant aside, the Mahabharata Essentials Omnibus is a great collection - whether or not you're a Mahabharata fan. Get it!
The author's extraordinary ability to present multiple perspectives on every situation has expanded my capacity for compassion and understanding in my own relationships. Each reading session with my children becomes a sacred opportunity to share timeless wisdom in ways their young minds can grasp without losing the profound ethical complexities that make these stories eternally relevant.
