This is an attempt to get together as an online group and write our novels together. In that sense it is similar to NanoWriMo, but while NanoWriMo emphasizes on speed even at the expense of quality, we’ll try and strike a better balance. We will therefore write our novels over four months instead of one.
How it will work: I will post in this section over the next few weeks with a plan. All of us will aim for a 60,000-word novel (except me because my publisher wants something longer than 60K), and all of us will work to the same deadlines. There will be no requirement for you to share your daily progress with the rest of the group, but if you feel inclined to do so and if the other person agrees, I won’t stop you.
The idea is to set a framework in place and plan our novels carefully before we begin writing them, and once we begin, meet our daily writing targets and build our books from the bottom up. This is aimed primarily at people who have never written a book, but if you’re a seasoned writer and would still like to participate, you’re more than welcome.
What you need to do: If you think this idea could go somewhere, check back in here once a week or so, read the posts, and see if this is your cup of tea.
We’re going to start planning our books right away, but the writing is going to begin on Monday, May the 13th. The planned finish for the first draft of the novel is four months from that date, i.e. Friday, September the 13th. So if all goes well, we should all be holding up our respective manuscripts on Friday the 13th, about six months from now.
The best way to learn how to write a book is by writing one. If you’ve always wanted to write one and haven’t for lack of support or guidance, this is the place for you.
